The 2020-21 NBA season is about to reach its climax with the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks tied 2-2 in the NBA Finals. The Suns shot into a 2-0 lead, but the Bucks pulled them back to tie the series 2-2 in one of the most exciting NBA Finals in living memory.
Phoenix Suns are the overwhelming favorites in the latest NBA Finals betting markets despite surrendering a 2-0 advantage. The Suns enjoyed an incredible regular season, one that saw them finish 51-21 (0.708), only one game behind the Utah Jazz, who has a complete freak of a regular-season campaign.
Amazingly, this was the Suns’ first winning season since 2013-14 and the first time they reached the playoffs since 2010.
The Suns and Bucks Routes to the NBA Finals
The Suns’ route to the NBA Finals was far from easy. They needed six games to beat defending NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers before brushing aside Denver Nuggets in four games. A fiercely fought victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, over six games, secured the Suns’ first NBA Finals appearance in 28 years.
Milwaukee Bucks are enjoying their time in the NBA Finals, which is their first appearance in 47 years! Bucks fans have had little to cheer when it comes to the NBA Playoffs over the years, but Giannis Antetokounmpo has almost single-handily dragged them to where they are now.
Bucks finished third in the Eastern Conference with a 46-26 (0.639) record. They took on the Miami Heat in the First Round of the playoffs and demolished them 4-0. Bucks needed seven games to beat the Brooklyn Nets in the Conference Semifinals before defeating the Atlanta Hawks 4-2 in the Conference finals.
The NBA Finals Games So Far
The Suns struck first blood in the NBA Finals when they ran out 118-105 winners thanks, in part, to Devin Booker and Chris Paul combining for 59 points and Deandre Ayton posting a colossal double-double. Suns always looked in control and lead by 20 points at one stage.
Game 2 also went Suns’ way as they finished strongly to win 118-108 to claim a 2-0 advantage. Again, Devin Booker was in scintillating form, registering 31 points, while Mikal Bridges added 27 points for the Suns. Suns’ players scored an incredible 20 3-pointers to put the game to bed.
Suns took the lead with 4:39 remaining in Q2 and never relinquished their advantage.
Bucks needed to improve, and they did exactly that in Game 3 as they ran out worthy 120-100 winners. The Bucks proved too strong for the Suns, thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpos scoring an unbelievable 41 points while registering 13 rebounds and six assists. It was the kind of response Bucks fans wanted from their team.
The fourth game of the NBA Finals ended in a thrilling 109-103 victory for the Bucks, with Antetokounmpos again showing why he is one of the NBA’s top players. The man-mountain registered 26 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists, while Khris Middletons racked up 40 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Devin Booker was terrific for the Suns — he logged a game-high 42 points — but the Bucks proved too strong for the men from Phoenix.
What Happens Next?
This year’s NBA Finals is now guaranteed to go to at least six games, with the series poised at 2-2. Game 5 takes place at 9:00 p.m. ET on July 17.
The Suns have home-court advantage, and that is what is swaying things in the latest betting markets. Suns need more from Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton, but both players are capable of turning on the style in big games. They do not come much more significant than this one.
Bucks need to feed Antetokounmpos as much as possible because the Suns have been unable to stop him in the previous two fixtures.
Losing to the Bucks will be highly demoralizing for the Suns’ roster and results in them having to win on the road on July 20. If there was ever a must-win game for Phoenix, this is it.
